Director of Photography

Adib Sobhani is an Iranian cinematographer. After 12 years of successfully working with acclaimed cinematographers (Hossein jafarian and payman shadmanfar) and filmmakers (Oscar-winning Asghar Farhadi- The Salesman, 2016), he made his first debut in 2018 as DOP in feature film “Amir” which was nominated at Karlovy Vary Film Festival. His following works were also in acclaimed movies such as “The Exam, 2021” nominated for best film at numerous international festivals namely Crystal Globe. His cinematography in this film has received positive reviews in Variety, and Verdict, and RSIFF. His latest work, “Beyond the wall, 2022” by Vahid Jalilvand has also been nominated for best film in Venice Film Festival 2022.

After completing a filmmaking course at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society in Sanandaj, he entered the world of short films and began working as a cinematographer. After several years of working in short films, he transitioned into professional cinema, starting his professional career as an assistant to the renowned Iranian cinematographers Mahmoud Kalari and Hossein Jafarian. He continued his work as a camera assistant and lighting supervisor in over 30 feature films, the most notable of which is The Salesman by Asghar Farhadi.


In 2016, he began his first feature film as a Director of Photography with Amir, directed by Nima Eghlima, which gained attention for its composition and visual style.

To date, he has worked on nine feature films, one feature documentary, and twenty short films. His works have been featured in major international film festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, and Karlovy Vary.

He also participated in the 31st edition of the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Festival with the film Beyond The Wall and won the Best Cinematography award at the CYRUS International Film Festival in Toronto in 2023.

He was also nominated at The International Cinematographers Film Festival MANAKI BROTHERS 45th-anniversary.
