Storyline

Bibijan, an Afghan refugee little saint, is slaughtered. On her wedding night. When only thirteen. Under a wall in the outskirts of Sirjan, in the middle of Iran. Now, women go on a pilgrimage to the ruins of a girl’s grave, whose name they don’t know. “This is the story of a girl forgiven by religion but not her tribe.” The murderer says.

Journalists are always faced with painful social issues. In our 20 years of journalism in Iran, we have repeatedly encountered and written about issues such as early child marriage, violence, and honor killings.

Three years ago, at a journalism training workshop in Sirjan in eastern Iran, we came across a subject that was different from all the similar events we had written about before.

In Iran, as in many other countries in the world, honor killings take place, but what made the subject of our first film was the murder of Bibijan, a 13-year-old Afghan immigrant girl, by her brother the day after her wedding.

For more than ten years after her death, Afghan women living in the city have tried to make sure that the murder is not forgotten and that the memory of Bibijan survives. In this film, we tried to portray the efforts of these women while describing the murder; Unidentified and distant women who, without any media, guidance or campaign, spoke out against the oppression.
