Fereshteh Hosseini (born April 26, 1997) is an Iranian-Afghan actress known for her powerful performances in Iranian cinema and television. Born in Tehran to Afghan parents, Fereshteh’s story is one of resilience and determination.
Early Life and Career:
Fereshteh Hosseini began her professional career at the age of 15, initially working in theater due to her family’s strict upbringing. Despite the challenges of balancing education and work, she pursued acting with unwavering determination. She trained under several renowned Iranian artists, including Asghar Mohammadi, Mahtab Nasirpour, and Mohammad Rahmanian.
In addition to her stage work, Fereshteh also appeared in several films and documentaries. Her first on-screen appearance was in the 2015 documentary I Am a Happy Actress, directed by Samereh Rezaei. However, her breakthrough came in 2016 with Parting (Raftan), directed by Navid Mahmoudi. The film, which explores the experiences of Afghan refugees, earned her widespread acclaim and the Best Actress award at the Marrakech International Film Festival.
Breakthrough and Recognition:
Fereshteh Hosseini continued to establish herself as a talented and versatile actress, particularly known for her roles in socially relevant films. In 2020, she gained widespread attention for her performance as Leila in the television series Frog (Ghoorbagheh), directed by Hooman Seyedi. This role earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Drama at the prestigious Hafez Awards.
In 2021, she was nominated for the Crystal Simorgh Award for Best Supporting Actress at the Fajr Film Festival for her role in The Girls Squad (Dasteh Dokhtaran). Although she did not win the Crystal Simorgh, she was honored with a Diploma of Honor in recognition of her outstanding performance.
Recent Achievements:
Fereshteh Hosseini has continued to embrace challenging roles, earning critical acclaim for her contributions to Iranian cinema. In addition to her film work, she made a strong impression in the streaming world with her performance in The Asphalt Jungle (Jangal-e Asfalt), directed by Pejman Teymourbash and released in 2023.
She also takes on a distinct and leading role in Cinema Jazireh, the second feature film by Gözde Kural, which is set to premiere in 2025.
In May 2021, Fereshteh Hosseini’s relationship with fellow actor Navid Mohammadzadeh—her co-star in Frog—became public. The couple confirmed their marriage in July 2021, an event that received widespread media attention.
Despite her rising fame, Fereshteh remains deeply connected to her roots and is an outspoken advocate for the rights of Afghan refugees in Iran. Her body of work frequently explores themes such as displacement, identity, and resilience—subjects that resonate powerfully with both Iranian and Afghan audiences.
